OG Ron C x DJ Candlestick x DVSN - Purple DVSN

How do you make one of the year’s best R&B projects thus far, even better? You purple it up, of course.

DVSN’s major label debut under October’s Very Own, SEPT. 5TH, has been out for two weeks now, but the duo (composed of producer Nineteen85 and vocalist Daniel Daley)’s sultry grooves won’t be leaving the rotation anytime soon. So it’s fitting, then, that the legendary OG Ron C – or, more fittingly, OVOG Ron C – and his band of merry Chopstars would be tapped to put the chopped not slopped touch on DVSN’s latest.

Rebranded as Purple DVSN, DJ Candlestick handles the majority of the chops on the 12-track effort. Though SEPT. 5TH was full of slow-burning goodness in its own right, DJ Candlestick’s purple touch makes the moments simmer to perfection just a little bit longer.

So fan favorites “Too Deep” and “The Line” sound even smoother than they did on the album, or even in their initial Soundcloud form. “Do It Well” sizzles and pops, to where it might be the perfect addition to your Netflix and Chill playlist. And “Another One” chopped not slopped is transformed into another monster, a nine-minute sonic second cousin of DJ Luke Nasty’s “Might Be” that isn’t as raunchy but that might be (no pun) a downtempo house party rocker.
