Phife Dawg was always one for jokes on wax. The late emcee may have ascended to hip-hop’s upper room but the gifts he left on Earth are still inspiring those today. Yesterday, on the same day as his celebration at the famed Apollo Theater in Harlem, the full video for “Nutshell” arrived, complete with Phife riffing on alliteration from the opening bars on.

Letting his words fit all inside of J Dilla’s headbanging production, Phife declares himself no short of “undefeated, unblemished, underrated, unfiltered, unafraid, unaffected, undaunted, unabashed, undeniable, untouchable, unstoppable, unusual, underdog, unsurpassed, unyielding”. The track was premiered in full on Beats 1 Radio yesterday with Ebro Darden and still serves as the lead single from Give Thanks, Phife’s now posthumous sophomore album.

50% of the proceeds from “Nutshell” will be donated to the American Diabetes Association and the National Kidney Foundation. Listen to the song in full, watch the video and support the track on on Apple Music.
