For much of the year, Kirko Bangz has been running with his loverman persona. Crafting R&B tracks filled with ’90s/00s samples and tales of sexual want and need, Bangz has kept much of his street ideas and thoughts on the back burner. “Love & Basketball,” lifting Ginuwine’s “Stingy” for a more than verbose banger. Sixteen years after the Sanaa Lathan/Omar Epps love story played out on the big screen, Kirko Bangz crafts the audio equivalent of a love that’s lasted for a while, all the way from matching outfits right down to the sneakers to remaining loyal forever. There’s a small clip of an argument between Q & Monica near the tail end but the main theme of Kirko’s “Love & Basketball” is staying down, regardless.
