Big KRIT - So Bad

Technically, Big K.R.I.T. doesn’t owe us anything. He gifted his fans with his It’s Better This Way mixtape fall, and that hasn’t left the rotation yet.

But every thing the K.R.I.T.ically Acclaimed emcee does is calculated. Today marks the five-year anniversary of arguably Big K.R.I.T.’s breakout mixalbum, Return of 4eva. So, it’s no real surprise that the Meridian Monster hopped back in the booth to drop an entirely new song today, entitled “So Bad.”

For nearly three minutes, K.R.I.T. ventures into the introspective flow that defined past notable songs like “The Vent” and “Love Me For Real,” riding a double-tapping bass heavy, guitar-driven bluesy beat. On “So Bad’s” hook, the rapper barks out “I’ma go and get this sh*t right now!”, and it’s uncertain if he’s telling himself that or encouraging the listener to seize the things they want they most. He uses the verses to themselves to elaborate on his hunger: on distancing from fake people in the first verse, for example, and on the finer things he’s acquired in the second.

Even more than “So Bad” itself, however, is the somewhat cryptic artwork K.R.I.T. has attached to it. It doesn’t look like single artwork but, rather, a COVER of something. Could “So Bad” be merely the first taste from the Cadillactica emcee’s third studio album? That remains to be seen.

For now, let “So Bad” serve as your motivation music for the week to come.
