Currensy - Weed and Instrumentals

If it were up to Curren$y, he’d drop a new project every month. New Orleans’ own Spitta has a reputation for being one of the most consistent emcees in the game right now, and not without reason – better to keep your momentum on a continuous high (no pun intended), than to ever let it taper off. In January, Curren$y gave us The Owner’s Manual. He followed that up in February with The Carrollton Heist. And now, in March, Curren$y is back with yet another tape, fittingly titled Weed & Instrumentals.

Clocking in at seventeen tracks, Weed & Instrumentals is much more of a showcase of JET Life’s roster than Curren$y’s previous two releases. Tiny C-Style, Corner Boy P, Mr. Marcelo, TY, and Fiend all make appearances on the tape. Oh, and there’s a certain Houston-based JET Life affiliate by the name of LE$ that also pops up on “The Roll Out.”

True to its title, Weed & Instrumentals is as notable for its beats as it is for its rhymes, with some songs just letting the beat ride towards the end (“Above,” for example, and “Ultimate Ultimate”). Curren$y even offers up a freestyle over Mike Jones and Paul Wall’s “Still Tippin” on the tape, as well. But the sounds are smooth throughout and might well set a tone for the weekend.
