Yuna - Crush (f. Usher)

Alternative soul artist Yuna is one of the hidden gems in modern music. She does her own thing, carves out her own unique lane that blends her Malaysian heritage with American musical stylings. In 2016, however, Yuna intends to expand outside of her usual audience by dropping her third and arguably most-mainstream album to date, Chapters. Last week, Yuna premiered a new single from Chapters, “Crush” featuring Usher.

Propelled forward a by soulful guitar strings and soft percussion, the four-minute long track is both a fitting introduction to new listeners of Yuna and a friendly reminder to those who are already fans of her. As its title implies, “Crush” is a smooth duet about taking a chance on love with the one you want. Yuna’s voice is hypnotic, and Usher plays a perfect compliment to her. “I know you been down, down, down, down, down,” Usher croons on the bridge. “I won’t let you down, down, down, down, down, down.”

Yuna’s Chapters album, on which the Usher-assisted “Crush” appears, touches down in stores and online retailers on May 20th, though you can pre-order the album on the singer’s website now. Chapters will drop in both a standard format and a deluxe format that’s digital only and contains three additional songs.
