premiere“The people need this,” Kydd Jones remarked about “County”, his brand new single from GR33D. The mixtape is pretty much wrapped up and Kydd can barely contain his excitement about it. The Austin to Atlanta rapper has pretty much stretched far in making sure his latest project is his best yet, picking up features from Tory Lanez, Kirko Bangz, Sean Price, his mentor Chuck D and more. German producer Heartbeatz, a beatmaker Kydd considers a literal pen pal laces “County” with a menacing bass line, packing it with enough lurching menace to make it feel like the worst is just around the corner.

Kydd Jones’ melodic delivery comes from a weird place, where you can be whatever you want since Austin hip-hop never had a stigma or aesthetic attached to it. He hears from his brother in the county jail on “County”, taking wisdom and knowledge while comparing his drinking habits to Kanye West & Hennessy. Even when he hears that automated tone, he’s hesitant but understands he’s still got to hit accept and listen on. Most people just want to hit up their homeboys, grab street tacos and reminisce about the good days. It’s all Kydd can do in some spaces, sipping and plotting while his brother wants something in his commissary.
