Touted as one of the best hip hop producers of all time, James Dewitt Yancey aka J.Dilla left a major mark on the culture.  His groovy, laid back sound delivered the tone to what some would call the “boom bap”.  He produced for the likes of Common, Erykah Badu, Busta Rhymes, A Tribe Called Quest and the list is entirely too long.  The Detroit native’s influence remains as the month of February rolls in so does the J.Dilla Tributes around the world.  Houston’s 6th annual official tribute DILLAgence series will be tonight 2/4 at Alley Kat during the weekly bash with The Waxaholics at 3718 Main at Alabama.  Get tix here.

For those travelers reading, the massive Dilla tribute hosted by his mother, MaDukes will be this weekend in Miami featuring 9th Wonder, Royce da 5’9, Pete Rock, DJ Premier and our own Bun B.  For more info visit jdillaweekend.com

J. Dilla succumbed to a rare blood disease combined with Lupus in 2006.  His legacy is as fervent as ever.  TURN IT UP
