adidas To Honor Jesse Owens With Black History Month Collection [@adidas]

Days after Nike revealed their annual Black History Month collection, adidas followed suit, albeit in a different manner. Choosing to focus on a singular athlete or historical figure, the brand of Three Stripes chose legendary sprinter Jesse Owens to pay homage to.

adidas’ collection outfits some of the signature sneakers worn by Derrick Rose, Damien Lillard and James Harden with golden accents and personal effects to mirror the accomplishments and legacy of Jesse Owens. Each model sports creme tones with dark brown contrasts. The signature details contain Owens’ 733 bib number in golden foil on the tongue and a 1936 graphic print stitched into the sockliner.

Before becoming an American icon with four gold medals at the 1936 Berlin Olympics, Owens shattered three world records at the 1935 Big Ten Track Championships for Ohio State. A feature film about his accomplishments will be released later this year.

The adidas Black History Collection in honor of Jesse Owens hits retailers on Friday. See the full images of sneakers and details in our gallery up top.
