Slim K - 1-800-SlimK Chopline

It’s only been 13 days into the new year, but Slim K is at it again. The Chopstars DJ and the man otherwise known as Mr. Chopped Up & Get Your Girl Knocked Up took to his Slim K Slowdown site at the top of the morning – literally, midnight – on Wednesday to release the newest installment of his “Nice & Slow” series, Nice & Slow 51.5: 1-800-Slim K Chopline.

Its title artwork may imply that there’s nothing but phone-inspired selections, but there’s more to Nice & Slow 51.5 than meets the eye. Sure, Slim K puts his purple touch on select hits of the moment, making Erykah Badu’s “Phone Down” even more sultry than it already was; turning Ye Ali’s current single “Ring 4x” with Dutchboy into a grown folks’ lullaby; and even sliding in internet sensation William Singe’s “Hotline Bling” cover and Jeremih’s “Impatient.” Sy Ari’s “TLC” may mess around and be the sleeper on the whole project, much like “Thigh Kisser” was on Nice & Slow 50.

But Nice & Slow 51.5’s real MVPs, are the classic tracks Slim K resurrects. Somehow, Slim K’s chopped not slopped version of Pretty Ricky’s “On The Hotline” sounds like it’s looped with the instrumental from Lil’ Jon, Ludacris, and Usher’s “Lovers & Friends,” and the end result is incredible. And yes, Slim K is deliberate in choosing Janet Jackson’s “Would You Mind” as an outro. You’ll have to provide your own condoms, though.
