Blowfly, the masked superhero who made a living as the original dirty rapper has revealed he has terminal liver cancer. In a note posted on his , the 77-year-old Blowfly has entered hospice care and is suffering from multiple organ failure.

The actual nature of Blowfly is a character played by Clarence Reid. Reid, a noted Miami R&B artist collaborated with the likes of Sam & Dave, KC & The Sunshine Band, Irma Thomas and others. Under his given name, Reid has released singles and albums such as 1969’s Dancin’ With Nobody But You Babe and 1976’s On The Job. He released a varied amount of singles under his given name, starting with 1963’s “Push A Little Harder / Like White On Rice”. His work as Blowfly however has been much more prolific. Reid has released 26 albums under the moniker, including plans for his 27th and final album, 77 Rusty Trombones to be released next month.
