#ArtistsToWatch – Majid Jordan [@majidjordan @jordanullman @majidalmaskat] Kelsey McDaniel January 12, 2016 Artists To Watch, Music 1 Comment When your label mates include names like Drake, PartyNextDoor and ILoveMakonnen along with producers Noah “40” Shebib, and Boi-1da, you have your work cut out for you. Canadian singing, songwriting and production duo Majid Jordan seems to be up to the task. As a matter of opinion, Majid Jordan is made up of two of OVO Sound’s most talented artists. Name: Majid Jordan (Majid Al Maskati & Jordan Ullman) Location: Toronto, Candada Genre: R&B 2015 Releases: Majid Jordan Mix, “My Love”, “Something About You” Originally known as Good People, Majid Jordan, came to be via the University of Toronto in 2011. That same year the duo (comprised of Majid Al Maskati and Jordan Ullman) released their first EP AfterHours. Two years later, Majid Jordan would find themselves with a new name for starters, featured on and co-producing (fellow Toronto native) Drake’s “Hold On We’re Going Home”, and even signed to his recording label. Sometime in early 2015, I finally gave Majid Jordan a thorough listen and I have to say I quickly became a fan. As soon as I heard the title track from their A Place Like This EP, I assumed they would quickly become the next “big thing”. Hell, I listened to that one track at least 20 times in a row. Lyrically and sonically, the duo has a knack for combining the best aspects of pop, electro, R&B and hip-hop to create music that is trippy and even ethereal at times; you won’t want to turn it off. While some may jump to comparisons, Majid Jordan has a unique sound that is entirely a product of Maskati and Ullman’s creative minds. Next month, Majid Jordan will be releasing their self-titled, debut studio album. Coming in at 12 tracks, Majid Jordan is set to feature just three additional producers and only one artist, OVO Sound founder Drake; who is featured on the already released single “My Love.” Last month, Majid Jordan released a more upbeat upbeat second single from the album “Something About You”. With their sheer amount of talent and alignment with some of the most influential people in the industry, Majid Jordan should command a top spot on your #ArtistsToWatch list.
