The War on Drugs has a new location in 2016 – suburban Northeast America where there’s a massive heroin epidemic and law enforcement can’t figure out the reason as to why. Maine governor Paul LePage however can put a face to why his state is overcome with new, mostly white heroin addicts — guys with the name “D-Money, Smoothie & Shifty.”

The comments from LeParge came from a recent town hall meeting where LePage outlined where the drug dealers were coming from to infect his state and what they d once they leave. All of this was captured on video and his reasoning is so 1955 Emmitt Till that Donald Trump may blush.

LePage’s problems with the outsiders extend far beyond giving drugs to Maine residents. To him, those dealers frequently “impregnate a young, white girl” before they head back down south to states like New York & Connecticut. The “young, white girl” remark left one reporter to only respond with a very audible “huh” while the other gaggle of beat writers could only laugh uncomfortably as Gov. LaPage rattled off “D-Money, Smoothie & Shifty”.

Here’s the full quote. Remember, this is a real quote.

These aren’t people who take drugs, these are guys that are named D-Money, Smoothie, Shifty… [Laughter] These type of guys who come from Connecticut and New York, they come up here they sell their heroin then they go back home. Incidentally half they time they impregnate a young white girl before they leave, which is a real sad thing because then we have another issue that we gotta deal with down the road.

Just for demographic purposes, Maine’s population is only 1.4% black. LePage’s remarks only bring up widespread inaccurate generalizations about the War on Drugs as studies have continually shown that both blacks and white use and sell drugs at similar rates. However, African Americans are more likely to be arrested for drug possession and to be given harsher sentences for their crimes as compared to whites. Not to mention, it brings up 19th and 20th century ideology that white policymakers feared black people would lure young white women with drugs.

So, Paul LeParge isn’t just worried that Maine is overcome with a heroin epidemic thanks to black and brown drug dealers, he’s worried about a rise in population of single white mothers left to raise interracial children. Got it. Then again, maybe this guy on the far right is the D-Money that Paul LePage was referring to. And I’m certain the little guy is Shifty and the bald guy is Smoothie. Just a guess.
