Being Mary Jane, the popular BET show helmed by former Girlfriends show runner Mara Brock Akil was renewed for a fourth season. The announcement was made Wednesday by BET’s president of programming Stephen Hill at the Television Critics Association press tour in Pasadena, Calif. Season 4 will resume production in Atlanta, according to Hill.

During its third season, Being Mary Jane averaged 2.1 million viewers, a 1.2 rating in the key 18-49 adult demographic and a 1.1 rating in the 18-34 demographic. Every week during the third season, the show ranked in the top five amongst scripted cable series.

Being Mary Jane, which stars Gabrielle Union, revolves around the the professional and private life of a successful broadcast journalist.
