The back story to Kidd The Great is arguably one of Houston’s more entertaining tales. A cab driver gifted with one of the more unique voices in the city, Kidd The Great spent most of 2015 helping contribute to T.H.E.M.’s Nonpareil. After years of being an unsung sixth man for the squad, Kidd The Great is starting to move towards the release of his own solo project, Gifts Ungiven.

The first single, a cover of The Isley Brothers’ “Voyage To Atlantis” gets an assist from Chris Rockaway as the longtime boardsmith behind numerous records for T.H.E.M. members, Jack Freeman and the like adds a little grunge work to give Kidd The Great’s cover the kind of edge that separates it from most Isley covers. Stream it below. Gifts Ungiven is coming soon.
