Considering that he’s been doing more global and humane things for the people of Africa, Akon’s been rather quiet on the music front, appearing sporadically on guest features here and there (Migos’ “Whole Lot”, Matoma’s “Stick Around”). But having not released an album in over seven years (2008’s Freedom), the “Smack That” and “Locked Up” singer has made certain he’s got bigger goals and ambitions to deal with.

One of those ambitions is releasing a brand new album, Stadium. The entire project will be five separate discs covering 5 different genres of music (World, Reggae, House, Urban, and Pop) on each individual disc. One of those discs will feature his brand new single, “Want Some”, featuring DJ Chose that premiered on Ebro Darden’s Beats 1 show. Stream it below.

Here’s more information on Akon’s new label situation, courtesy of HHNM:

The singer has signed a new deal with Atlantic Records after leaving Universal Music under whom he released his last album Freedom in 2008. According to the information received by HHNM, Akon will release 4 genres of his Stadium album — world, house, urban and reggae through his soon to be launched app, also named Stadium.

Through the app, fans will be able to connect directly with Akon where they will be able to stream the album and buy tickets to his shows and merchandise etc. The last piece of the album, Pop will arrive in March next year in standard formats on multiple digital and physical outlets through Warner Music Group’s Atlantic Records.
