Anderson Paak x Knowledge - Link Up and Suede

You would think that Anderson .Paak, having experienced a breakout year to say the least and with his anxiously-awaited sophomore album Malibu on the horizon next month, would take a break. The California native rapper-singer has certainly earned it. And, to be quite frank, .Paak’s ScHoolboy Q-featured “Am I Wrong” single is still getting play and probably will continue to be played well into 2016.

Anderson .Paak, however, doesn’t think so. Anderson joined forces with L.A. emcee Knxwledge of Stones Throw Records, branding their dynamic duo “NxWorries”; and NxWorries released their debut EP, Link Up & Suede, this weekend.

For a project that comes somewhat out of nowhere, Link Up & Suede is superb. Six tracks deep – three tracks, an intro, and two interludes, to be technical – the EP has a run-length of just over eleven minutes. But it’s expertly crafted, impeccably timed, and smooth all the way through. “Suede” hides the slightest of sh*t talk under soulful instrumentation. And outro track “Droogs” is a very groovy love song. In fact, Link Up & Suede’s interludes seem like a tease, an appetizer even, of what NxWorries might have to offer. “Dntstop” and Datwhip” both seem to end just as the groove is beginning, leaving listeners fed but still hungry for more.
