Since it arrived two weeks ago, I’ve played Adele’s “Hello” maybe all of twice for two reasons. One, Adele has a knack for crafting some of the most “let me call my ex and try to win her back” music in the world. Two, you’re not going to get me with a ton of heartbreak at 2 AM when the song originally dropped. Remember how you felt as a man when “Song Cry” dropped and you found yourself arguing for your woman to take you back despite all of the dirt you’ve done? Yeah, that’s Adele, only far more heartfelt and powerful. Joe, long underrated and one of the more informative R&B voices of my early adolescence decided to cover Adele’s smash No. 1 single and at first I was apprehensive. Then I remembered, Joe was the one who let us know about “All The Things Your Man Won’t Do” and I realized. Only Joe, a dirty mack extraordinare could sing about heartbreak with the range and power of Adele’s original.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I’ll be avoiding making phone calls and humming Joe’s melody to “Hello” now.
