David Banner - Marry Me f. Rudy Currence

David Banner’s upcoming The God Box album might be worth a look. Though Banner has opted to hold off on releasing the project until next year, its lead single, the Big K.R.I.T.-assisted “My Uzi,” was a pleasant surprise this past summer. On Friday, Banner liberated The God Box’s second single, “Marry Me,” by way of a lyric video. It’s pure strategy on Banner’s part to release a song called “Marry Me” during peak wedding season (Houston’s recent stormy weather aside). And the song itself is certainly wedding reception worthy.

Feature Rudy Currence handles hook duty, his voice floating over guitar strums and suggesting that the two of them can stand against the stats and the world’s doubts if she accepts his proposal. The beat flips into something more hip-hop when Banner starts spitting, the Mississippi emcee waxing poetic and dropping rhymes like “I’ll wrap my soul around this ring, girl” and “I’m groomed to be the groom and the best man.” The lyric video adds a nice visual element to “Marry Me,” as well, depicting the earth suspended in the universe with images of Black artwork within it.

David Banner’s The God Box LP is slated to arrive in early 2016.
