Over 13 people have been killed, with 20 others injured, after a shooter opened fire at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Oregon on Thursday morning. While the shooter has yet to be identified, according to authorities the tragedy was carried out by 26-year-old Chris Harper-Mercer, who according to Attorney General Ellen Rosenbaum, was killed ast the scene. It’s not currently known whether he was a student.

While the community searches for answers, gun control is already back on the forefront as many are already questioning the perceived frequency of school shootings in America. President Obama weighed in with his own remarks stating, “As I said just a few months and I said a few months before that, our thoughts and prayers are not enough. It does not capture the heartache and grief and anger that we should feel and it does nothing to prevent this carnage from being inflicted someplace else in America next week or a couple of months from now.”

He added, “There’s been another mass shooting in America, this time at a community college in Oregon. This means there are more families, moms, dads and children whose lives have been changed forever.”

This story is still developing.
