Jay Rock - Vice CIty (f. Black Hippy)

“B.I.G. problems, I must admit – that sh*t might be the death of me.”

With Jay Rock’s long-awaited sophomore LP 90059 due out in less than twelve hours, many had hoped that “Vice City,” the Black Hippy posse cut on the album’s tracklist, might see the light of day before the album’s release. As if on cue, Jay Rock and the Top Dawg Entertainment camp have leaked “Vice City” today.

The “vice” in “Vice City,” of course, is women and money. Kendrick – fresh off an appearance on Stephen Colbert’s The Late Show just the other night – is relegated mostly to hook duties here, lamenting on living lavishly (commenting that he “can’t stand [himself]”) and the consequences that the cost of it all might bring. That allows the rest of the Black Hippy collective to do their damage over the instrumental from Cardo and YeX, which opens light and fluffy and soon gives way to a trippy, scaled back beat. Jay Rock and Ab-Soul own their own verses (Soul-o literally “waits a minute” mid-verse), but the honors here go to ScHoolboy Q, who hits one hell of a home run to close out the track.

The Black Hippy-collab “Vice City” appears on Jay Rock’s 90059 LP, which arrives in stores and online as of 9 PM tonight. However, you can pre-order the album now on iTunes.
