Back in July, Dallas’ Buffalo Black carried the momentum made by meeting Spike Lee and landing on Da Sweet Blood Of Jesus soundtrack with “Enter The Void” by releasing 1984, an Orwellian like take on the current situations involving people of color and how black people have been taken advantage of, regardless of decade or time period. “Anomalies,” a leak from his upcoming Surilla tape flows in the same way. There’s plenty of moments where Buffalo Black jumps into a form of spoken word where things don’t necessarily rhyme or flow with the pattern of production but he just goes for it. Same for feature Lord Byron who offers cutting factoids about President Obama’s racial makeup and more. If Buffalo Black is that guy for Dallas rap and I mean that guy in that Express sort of way where militancy and a higher decorum in regards to seeking the truth and leaving the bullshit of patriarchy and racism behind are the wave, then I’m all for it. Stream “Anomalies” from Buffalo Black & Lord Byron below. Surilla drops September 11th.
