Leon Bridges is a growing name in music. The barely close to 24-year-old Fort Worth singer released his Coming Home album this past June to a #1 spot on the Billboard charts and plenty of favor from fans and critics for being an album knee-deep in country boy retro soul and gospel. Naturally, it left the open ripe for creative possibility and longtime remixer and Brooklyn boy MICK not only decided to remix Bridges’ Coming Home album, he enlisted a group of producers from the Lone Star State and beyond to craft an entirely different sound for the project. The result? Coming Home To Texas, a blend of some of the greatest Texas rap records with Bridges’ almost perfect soul vocals.

MICK and his crew of producers (Chi Duly, Hasan Insane, Donnie Houston, TedyP, Jett I. Masstyr, Chris Rockaway) lift samples from The Geto Boys, Scarface, Slim Thug, Drake, UGK & Big Tuck to help give new life to seven of Coming Home‘s standout tracks. What do you get? You get Bridges’ vocals getting a chance to spar with the backdrop of UGK’s “International Players Anthem” for “River” or Slim Thug’s “3 Kings” bouncing around in the trunk while Bridges scats “Brown Skin Girl”. Coming Home To Texas asks for a little creativity from all parties and it turns into one of the best listens you’ll have all day. Bun B & Slim Thug both contribute guest verses to Coming Home To Texas which is available for free download via Audiomack. Stream it below.
