God, there’s certainly a love/hate relationship with Mos Def/Yasiin Bey right now. If you’re a fan of Mos Def and you live in Texas then you feel besmirched just by seeing his name pop up. The Black On Both Sides rapper has cancelled not once but twice dates for a tour of the state, in particular dates in Houston and Austin. He claimed illness for the first cancellation in July and no reason for why he cancelled his August 27th date. But, musically he’s been far more consistent, releasing “Basquiat Ghostwriter” earlier this month and now “Sensei On The Block” with Jay-Z/Camp Lo/Curren$y dojo master Ski Beatz. “Sensei On The Block” is loopy and charismatic as Mos (he’s going by that again on this cut) offers more of the kind of bars we’re used to hearing from him. Stream “Sensei On The Block” below. I wouldn’t expect Ski Beatz to get that full-length Mos tape out of the sometimes reclusive Brooklyn rapper, considering there’s still that Mos Def/Mannie Fresh album that has yet to materialize out there.
