After a dispute with the Mayor’s office over permitting for his back to school drive, Paul Wall won out, in more ways than one. The Back to School drive, which took place Sunday in Fourth Ward also doubled as the inaugural Paul Wall Day in the city of Houston.

Wall becomes the sixth Houston rapper honored with a day in the city and third this year following the likes of Trae Tha Truth, Slim Thug, Bun B, Lil Keke & Sun.

The issue came Monday as residents near the newer lofts and condos in Midtown clashed with Wall, believing that his event would draw a massive crowd to their dismay.

“They said they had people calling saying that it was gonna be a big-ass concert with over 10,000 people there,” Wall told the Houston Press. “I think somebody either (purposefully/or mistakenly) got our commercial on 97.9 confused with another of their commercials. We were just planning on this being a small event for a couple of hours.”

The Back to School drive was a success with well wishers such as Le$, TV Johnny, Wicket Crickett as well as jocks and hosts from 97.9 The Box & Boom 92 Houston. Wall’s SlabGod album is coming soon.
