The world is in love with Straight Outta Compton. The F. Gary Gray directed film currently has an 88% ‘Fresh’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes and moviegoers have awarded it with an A Cinemascore. Now it’s over-performing at the box office too.

The N.W.A biopic originally had studio estimations of pulling in $20 to $25 million from its Friday to Sunday opening weekend but it instead smashed the competition on Friday, pulling in an estimated $24 million in receipts. Opening on 2,755 screens on Thursday with early previews, the film grossed $5 million in ticket sales that day alone. A $29 million haul for its first two days would have easily put it at the top of the weekend box office but the film is still tracking high. Now industry experts are predicting that the R-rated drama based on the rise and fall of N.W.A is set to close in on near $60 million in weekend receipts.

Made on a $29 million budget after years in development hell at Universal, Straight Outta Compton stars Jason Mitchell, Corey Hawkins, O’Shea Jackson Jr. and Paul Giamatti as Eazy-E, Dr. Dre, Ice Cube & Jerry Heller respectively.
