Wondaland Presents The Eephus_cover

If yesterday marked the Wondaland Records collective’s entrance to the soundtrack of the revolution with their modern-day protest song “Hell You Talmbout,” then let today mark Wondaland’s attempt to revolutionize modern music period.

Like so many have done before her, singer Janelle Monáe opted to introduce her new brand to the world by releasing a compilation project featuring all of the label’s talent. Thus, Wondaland Presents The Eephus EP was born. And yet, there’s something about The Eephus that feels fresh, distinctive, and energizing even. The Eephus released today; and the collective has put the EP up to stream on Spotify for free.

Propelled forward by Janelle and Jidenna’s sizzling “Yoga” track and the latter’s breakout single “Classic Man” – and also featuring the Kendrick Lamar-assisted “Classic Man (Remix)” – The Eephus EP clocks in at just six tracks. Though short, the EP does a fairly good job of introducing listeners to the rest of the Wondaland creative collective, as well. Duo Deep Cotton kicks off the EP on a funky note with the upbeat-country pop “Let’s Get Caught,” for example. Roman GianArthur (the other contributor to “Classic Man”) stands out on his own with the smooth “iKnow.” And St. Beauty makes her sole appearance on the project a solid one with the seductive, slow-burning “Going Nowhere.”
