Trae Tha Truth - Tha Truth_cover

Tha Truth is no longer on the way.

For Houston’s self-proclaimed “Asshole By Nature” Trae Tha Truth, the road to his major label debut on T.I.’s Grand Hustle Records/Hustle Gang imprint has been long, rough, and rugged. Through it all, Trae has neither slowed up nor let up on his hustle and his grind. Two years and an album name change later – the LP was initially to be called BANNED, so named after the emcee’s name being all but a pox following an incident with a 97.9 The Box radio personality – Tha Truth, Trae’s newest solo album, is here.

Though Day & A Dream was fortunate enough to be treated to a preview of Tha Truth in advance, hearing it is much better than hearing about it. That’s why, for those who remain critics of Trae, the artist has set loose a stream of his The Truth LP completely free on Spotify.

Sixteen tracks deep, Tha Truth is loaded with a variety of features – Future & Boosie Badazz join Trae on lead single “Tricken Every Car I Get”; Rich Homie Quan and Don Primo assist on the gritty “Criminals”; and Dej Loaf – who also released an EP earlier today – posts a star turn on album closer “Realigion.” Other guest appearances come from the likes of Nipsey Hussle, Rick Ross, J. Cole, Jeremih, T.I. himself, Snootie Wild, and even comedian Lil’ Duval, to name a few. But don’t let the overpresence of guests deter you: Trae holds down a quarter of the LP solo (including on the obvious stand out “Book of Life,” where Trae’s flow goes into overdrive), and his features compliment more than overshadow him.
