There are movies you defy logic for and then there’s Furious 7. Furious 7 which, if you haven’t heard has earned over $1 BILLION (with a B!) at the box office. It got there faster than anybody, sits as the seventh-highest grossing movie of all-time and pretty much was the perfect storm for all parties involved, movie studios and actors who ignore the red squiggly line underneath words. There was a finality to it, meaning there couldn’t be a Furious 8, could there?

Sorry, I buried the lede. Yes, Furious 8 is happening. You don’t just make a billion dollars in 17 days with one movie and call it quits. Since the films producers and crew may think they’ve done everything imaginable in Los Angeles, they may finally take our rag-tag crew led by Vin Diesel’s Dominic Toretto to the East Coast, perhaps New York City. When the news and the release date were announced, Diesel basically confirmed to a CinemaCon crowd what we were all probably thinking. “We’re going to make the best movie you’ve ever seen,” he said.

Think about that. Best. Movie. Ever. Furious 7 maybe had all the buzz in the world behind it because of the death of Paul Walker and the film’s delay, not to mention the touching tribute they did for him during the final scene. To put it mildly, I don’t doubt Diesel when he makes promises. He promised us that Furious 7 was going to win the Academy Award for Best Picture and he might be right. Hell, Furious 7 may outgross Avengers 2 when all of the receipts are tallied up. This is what we know now America, do not doubt Vin Diesel.

Furious 8 is set to be released on April 14, 2017. Expect a car jumping over the Empire State Building or the Statue of Liberty or Tyrese screaming for his mom while stuck in gentrified Brooklyn when it’s all set and done.
