Robert Glasper-Backpew

The Robert Glasper Experiment is one of the more refreshing groups to emerge in modern music. Helmed by Houston’s own Robert Glasper, the jazz collective Experiment produced two stellar albums this decade alone in Black Radio and Black Radio II. Glasper intends to build on his impressive resume in the 2010s with a new album, Covered, slated for this summer, an album that will reunite him with his original “Robert Glasper Trio” alongside bassist Vincente Archer and drummer Damion Reid.

Before Covered arrives, however, Robert Glasper is coming home (no LeBron James).

Glasper has been tapped to headline the latest installment of St. John’s Downtown church and More Than A Rib Productions’ “Backpew Concert Series,” which provides artists with an opportunity to perform before an intimate audience. But Backpew also allows both the artist and the audience to contribute to the local community, as proceeds from the Series are donated directly to Houston non-profit homeless shelter Bread of Life.

An Evening With Robert Glasper, presented by the Backpew Concert Series, goes down on Saturday, April 25, at 8:00 PM. You can purchase early-bird tickets to the performance here.
