Idris Elba Isn’t “British Enough” To Be James Bond, According To Roger Moore Brandon Caldwell March 28, 2015 News, TV/Movies The Internet rarely, and I mean rarely agrees in unison on something. One of the few things we all agree upon is that Idris Elba (or the Doctor from Doctor Who) should be the next James Bond. Not that we’re all saying, “hey, a black James Bond would be an amazing idea” but the fact that Elba is plain and simple, the coolest sort of young and rugged British actor around. Well, something about Idris being … “British” isn’t sitting well with one of the best Bonds ever, 87-year-old Roger Moore. “A few years ago, I said that [black actor] Cuba Gooding Jnr would make an excellent Bond, but it was a joke!” replies Sir Roger, 87, who starred in seven Bond movies between 1973 and 1985. “Although James may have been played by a Scot, a Welshman and an Irishman, I think he should be ‘English-English’,” he continues. “Nevertheless, it’s an interesting idea, but unrealistic.” So wait, Roger, tell me more. What exactly about a British born actor like Idris isn’t … “English-English”? Wait Roger. We know what you’re trying to tell us Roger. It’s cool. It’s perfectly fine. Just say that Idris Elba is too black to be James Bond and we’ll be cool.
