#ThePulse: Joel Gives Southern Hip-Hop A Message On “Love You” [@joel1gp @_KEOnTheTrack] Bradford J. Howard March 2, 2015 MP3s, Music 2 Comments Perhaps Tennessee is the breeding ground for the future of hip-hop. Chattanooga brought us Isaiah Rashad just two years ago; and now, this year, Nashville is stepping into the ring by way of Joel. The Birmingham, Alabama native lauds himself as “a Hip Hop/Rap artist and inspirational speaker on a mission to reach the world with a message of hope and promise.” As a part of burgeoning Christian-inspired artistry brand 1 God Productions, Joel is daring to bridge the gap between the secular and the spiritual… or at least the popular and the proverb-motivated. That “bridge” begins with “Love You,” Joel’s newest single which just so happens to be produced by hip-hop boardman K.E. on The Track. Equal parts refreshing – for the message it brings – and impressive – in the way that Joel switches up cadences in his flow and is never once overpowered by K.E.’s blaring anthemic instrumental – “Love You” is nearly four minutes of Christian hip-hop that changes the game. “If I don’t inspire you, I dropped the ball”, Joel barks as the track is just beginning, setting a tone for what’s to come. New-age Christian Hip-Hop? Not exactly. But Joel and 1 God Productions are daring to wake up the Spirit – the Holy Spirit, that is – in modern hip-hop. We’d do well to hear out the “Truth” he’s trying to share. Share this:TweetShare on Tumblr 2 Responses Reggie March 4, 2015 THIS IS WHAT HIPHOP ISO MISSING! HATS OFF TO JOEL! WELCOME HOME YO!
