Since 2012, we heard the the Hannah-Barbera classic the Jetsons was coming to the big screen in live-action form. We were given the rumor that Yeezus himself was asked to be a creative consultant on the project. Since then we have heard little about this project taking shape and ready for lift off, until now. Unfortunately this project doesn’t appear to be involving the college dropout, and may not even be live action!

Warner Bros. is planning to release the film in animation, which make a major turn of events for Spy Kids director Robert Rodriguez. The director informed us that he was writing the script for the live action film but later the script fell into the hands of Van Robichaux and Evan Susser. Since then the script is now being completely revised by Matt Lieberman.

It’s going to be interesting seeing how the family of the future will be welcomed into the new generation and where the story will take us. Although the story is about a family in the distant future, the morals and values of this family depict the era in which it was created. Even though this will give the older generation a nostalgia feel, I cannot see this roping in the younger generation that will most likely be the target audience for the film. Will the tradition fathering style of George and the housewife Jane be appealing to the audience. Perhaps the scripts will need to update the unit of the family to fit today’s society. Beyond that, the imagination in creating a the futuristic world of the Jetsons is vast and can be explored in depths not imagined when originally created.

WB’s history with bringing Hanna-Barbera’s cartoons to live action has yet to be a major success. With the minor projects like Scooby Doo and The Flintstones sequel not a huge success, this could be a major opportunity to redeem the legacy of the Hanna-Barbera brand. For now, the Jetsons movie is full steam ahead and we will keep you updated on details of this project.
