Such a shame that every time Lil Wayne has to delay an album these days, a mixtape has to precede it. The original Sorry 4 The Wait came in 2011, a month before Tha Carter IV arrived to show that sober Wayne wasn’t the Wayne who had kept us anticipating new material every time his name was attached to something. Sorry 4 The Wait 2 however finds Wayne in a different state. He’s not pissed off because he’s finishing the album, he’s incensed because his own label home won’t let him put it out.

“Had to cook up a tape,” Tune starts on Sorry 4 The Wait 2 and it comes with plenty of heat behind it. Wayne jumps on beats from OT Genasis, Future, Beyoncé, Bobby Shmurda, ILoveMakonnen and more, letting guests like Drake, 2 Chainz, Christinia Milian all get some shine. There are homages to classic Wayne tracks such as “Alphabet Bitches” but this is focused Wayne, maybe the best he’s been at in years.
