In a well put together charity soiree held on December 20, service and social club organization The Mademoiselles Alumnae Inc. came together for a sleek holiday event created to raise funds for the Mademoiselle Service & Social Club which provides various programming and scholarships. Founded in 1960, the organization has grown to 12 high school campuses throughout Houston; each year every location gives one senior girl the opportunity to win a scholarship funded by the proceeds from this event.

Well known for their continued philanthropy within the community, each April the group hosts a workshop for young women that focuses on self-esteem, anti-bullying programs, health and fitness as well as the promotion of leadership skills. This annual event is proudly offered free of charge and falls in line with the organization’s principles of “promoting finer young womanhood and uplifting the community.

Taking the time out of a busy night to speak with us, Co-Director Brandii Mayes and board-member Geré Cole revealed how they evolved from participating in the program during high school to becoming active on an alumnae level.

Said Cole, “Having come out of the program I feel that I should give back. I feel that anybody in a position to do so should definitely give back. It’s about being responsible and being ladies I feel as if it’s our responsibility to look out and mentor those coming up behind us.”
