The Wire

In case you missed the memo, HBO has provided its viewers with a late Christmas/early New Year’s present.

The network has resurrected The Wire, digitally remastering David Simon’s groundbreaking cult series in high-definition for a holiday marathon. Unlike when the network previously attempted this back in September, this time HBO Signature will air the series’ five seasons daily, one by one, on the days leading up to New Year’s Eve. Season One kicked off yesterday afternoon, and Season Two will pick right back up at noon Eastern time (11 AM central) on December 27th.

If you’ve never before seen The Wire, the marathon presents you with an opportunity to catch up on all of the pop culture references, characters, and quotes (“They shot Omar!”) that you’ve heard over the years but never fully understood. If you have, then now you can experience the joy of reliving each episode on social media. On the list of TV shows that were all but made to be liveTweeted, The Wire is easily in the top 2.

If, however, you are too broke aren’t fortunate enough to have premium cable channels, you’re not entirely out of luck. HBO has also put the entire series up on its HBO GO streaming service. ‘Tis the season to find a friend with an HBO GO account and share the gift of Snoop, Avon Barksdale, McNulty, and so many others.
