Last week, when Childish Gambino released his Gangsta Grillz-hosted double mixtape STN MTN/Kauai, he dropped a pretty pleasant surprise in our laps that seemed like it would provide just the right kind of soundtrack in these last two weeks when summer and fall weather still flirt with each other before fall takes over. This was especially true for the Kauai side, which wasn’t even hurt by the appearance of Jaden Smith and was all but built for the beach.

If you listened carefully, though, you may have stumbled onto a “secret track” on Kauai – more specifically, the instrumental for a “3005 (Beach Picnic Remix).” Building on the tones and smooth feel of the original “3005” – which lived on Gambino’s Because the Internet LP – the remix’s instrumental had a bit more of a throwback R&B feel to it and felt a lot less like a pop record.

Sunday night, Gambino decided to set free the complete “3005 (Beach Picnic Remix)” with verses and vocals added in. On the Beach Picnic Remix, the man born Donald Glover turns the beat down to let himself spit freely in the first verse and singing the second verse out entirely, getting his ’80s R&B singer on with no shame.
