Danity Kane - Lemonade (f. Tyga)

Your eyes aren’t playing tricks on you. Dawn Richard’s “promise” via a twitpic posted during the 2014 Video Awards that Danity Kane would be returning – minus D. Woods, of course – has come true, and Dawn, Aubrey O’ Day, and Shannon Bex have reunited. Late last night, DK released their first single together in nearly four years, “Lemonade,” featuring Tyga.

With the Stereotypes on production merging chirps with a hijacking interpolation of The Neptunes’ “Grindin'” instrumental for The Clipse, “Lemonade” isn’t a remake of the Gucci Mane ratchet classic. No, this is an ode to the critics and the haters, a toast to them, even, with calling out their “sour ass faces” even as they insist they aren’t listening to what’s being said about them. Tyga’s guest bars aren’t too shabby themselves, but “Lemonade” hits so hard especially because it calls to mind MTV’s hey-day when these kind of radio-meets-the-club built singles dominated TRL.

It’s too early to say that DK is here to stay (because Aundrea’s M.I.A. on the track), but as far as returns go, “Lemonade” is one hell of a welcome back.
