Here’s where Rapsody differs from her competition: one (well, more like three) little snub won’t stop no show, and the North Carolina-repping Day & A Dream Breakout Queen has proceeded not only to drop a brand-new track (“Roses”), but also a new set of visuals in consecutive days following the release of XXL’s 2014 Freshman Class, a list on which Rapsody was noticeably absent.

“Betty Shabazz,” Rap’s contribution to the JAMLA is the Squad label compilation album, now has a music video to go along with it, merging images both spiritual (with the emcee posted up in a church house adorned in her all-Black Sunday’s best) and iconic (as Rap spits in a Malcolm X-inspired tee with Muslim women in hijabs on either side of her). But, not content to keep it solemn and reflective, Rap flips the script at the video’s 2:20 mark, at which point director Brian Petchers goes all black and white for the 9th Wonder-produced “Illuminaughty,” complete with a cameo from a certain basketball phenom from Rapsody’s favorite university team.
