At her best, Love Dominique is a smokey descendant of Toni Braxton. Dominique doesn’t have haunting ballad cuts, at least not yet and that’s perfectly fine. Her balance is found in touching those plinking mashes of 808 bass and low level synth for a club. It’s the evolution of Carmen Sandiego remaking Juvenile’s “Back That Azz Up” into a ladies anthem, only here Dominique covers all sides of the spectrum: love, lust, pain and heartbreak. “Tonight” is sensual, the sort of gyrating slow in a dimly lit club music where the singer plays chanteuse, whispering dirty nothings over a pretty catchy bassline from DJ Motivation. Dominique’s self-titled album is on the way.
