3rd Annual ESSENCE Black Women In Music Event

Sylvia Rhone, the longtime music industry veteran who previously served as the head of Elektra Records in 1994 and Universal Motown Records in 2004 was tabbed as the president of Epic Records today by CEO L.A. Reid.

“I’m honored to have the opportunity to expand my relationship with the talented team and the amazing artists at Epic,” said Rhone, in a press release. “What makes this opportunity different from any other is my partnership with renowned music executive L.A. Reid. I’m looking forward to what I think will be the finest chapter in my career.”

Rhone has previously worked with the likes of Lil Wayne, Fabolous, Kid Cudi, Akon, Erykah Badu, Nelly, Melanie Fiona, Stevie Wonder, Busta Rhymes and Missy Elliott to name a few. Her name has been brought up in music recently from the likes of Nicki Minaj and Drake. Minaj, more positive with bars like “Cause if Nicki win, then all of ya’ll getting meetings/Ask L.A. Reid, ask Jay/Then hit up Universal, see what Sylvia Rhone say.” on “Still I Rise” and Drake’s now infamous parable about Rhone on 2009’s “Say What’s Real”.
