Black Milk - Glitches in the Break

Amidst the fanfare of the larger names dropping albums this week – Pharrell and Rick Ross being the most notable – it was quite possible you missed the “soft” digital release of Black Milk’s Glitches in the Break EP. A fan favorite of hip-hop purists and lovers of lyricism for a minute now, Black Milk steps up his game immensely on Glitches; and just in case you needed a little convincing, he’s allowed the full EP to be available online in a free stream.

Nine tracks deep and propelled forward by lead single “Cold Day,” Glitches is sonically superb throughout, and Black Milk’s boardwork (as he produced the EP entirely by himself) is amazing. If the instrumentals themselves don’t hook you – “Dirt Bells” and “Reagan” especially – then Black Milk’s delivery and clever punchlines certainly will. Features on the EP are limited to Guilty Simpson (who shines on the single worthy “G”) and Fat Ray, allowing Milk to stand out solo on most of the project.
