If you’re single, you’ve probably been dreading the upcoming holiday since the aisles in the stores transitioned from holiday cheer to lovers’ lane. Just because you’re single, however, that doesn’t mean you have to spend Valentine’s Day alone. Valentine’s Day isn’t just reserved for that special person in your life – it can be a time for self-love or even to discover new love. Many singles are so caught up in the hype surrounding couples that they tend to forget about all the alternatives to enjoy the day. Whether you’re getting the guys or girls together for a pub crawl or a night of drunken karaoke, the options are limitless. Luckily, there is a little something for everyone to enjoy in Houston on this special day.

> Houston Style Magazine and the Debonair Brand have teamed up to host a unique “Speed Dating” event for young singles ages 24 and up at the Mosaic Bar & Lounge. Libations commence at 5pm with a happy hour and Mexican cuisine. Speed dating will begin at 7pm for the first 15 men & 15 women to register. If speed dating isn’t your fancy, you can head over to the Houston Museum of Natural Science for the resurgence of the popular “Mixers & Elixirs” series, where you can mingle with like minds while enjoying drinks and live music. The event will feature Valentine’s Day-inspired games and ice breakers for individuals looking to connect with someone else. The fun begins at 7pm and tickets are $20; don’t forget to bring your wallets, as some of the city’s best food trucks will be providing the eats for this event.  The “Love Sux Party” was designed for the extreme Anti-Valentine’s Day individual. The party’s theme, which needs no introduction, will take place at Howl at the Moon, and admission is free if you bring in a picture of your ex mutilated to pieces. Singles 21 and up are able to drink the pain away with specials like the $9 Ex-Boyfriend and the $6 F-Bomb, because who needs love when you can have vodka on tap for a full night of bitter shenanigans? The party kicks off at 5PM on Friday, February 14th. (612 Hadley Street)
