This past Friday, February 7th marked the 40th birthday of James Dewitt Yancey better known as J. Dilla. The Detroit legend has left a sonic legacy that has left an indelible mark in the world of music via his infection production and thorough catalogue. His influence has inspired many and continues to do so. JayDee has produced for your favorite artists such as A Tribe Called Quest, Common, Erykah Badu, Yasiin Bey formerly Mos Def, Janet Jackson and countless others including his own group Slum Village. On February 10th, 2006 Dilla left this plain of existence after his battle with Lupus and was producing music on his deathbed. Tonight Houston celebrates the life and legacy of the great one, J. DILLA. Doors open at 8pm at the Mosaic Bar and Lounge, 5927 Almeda Road in the Museum District. Donations will be collected and sent directly to the J. Dilla Foundation.
