The first thing we wrote about Macklemore occurred in 2012, when he was nominated as a XXL Freshman and his biggest song then was about Air Jordans titled “Wings”. Some have been fans of his since ’09 and maybe even before but now — everybody has something to say about Macklemore, whether he’s too pop for the Rap Grammy category or “Same Love” just pushes the agenda for gay rights or whether or not The Heist was worth all of its nominations.

Last night, The Heist won every major rap category at the 56th GRAMMYs in Los Angeles, including a win in the Best New Artist category. Macklemore has been on record in multiple interviews with the press that he felt that Kendrick Lamar should win Best Rap Album for good kid, m.A.A.d city but alas that didn’t happen. His “Same Love” performance with Mary Lambert and Madonna did a few things, including wed some 33 people inside the Staples Center but his response to K.Dot following the show might be the best thing he’s done with all of this confounded hate.

“My text to Kendrick after the show. He deserved best rap album… I’m honored and completely blown away to win anything much less 4 Grammys. But in that category, he should have won IMO. And that’s taking nothing away from The Heist. Just giving GKMC it’s proper respect.. With that being said, thank you to the fans. You’re the reason we were on that stage tonight. And to play Same Love on that platform was a career highlight. The greatest honor of all. That’s what this is about. Progress and art. Thank you. #grammys”
