A popular member of the Coalition DJs was murdered outside of his home early Tuesday morning. DJ Nando, real name William Barnes and member of the DJ conglomerate since 2008 was shot dead according to local police. No suspects have been arrested.

Barnes along with the Coalition DJs reached new heights in 2013 with a career profile in the Wall Street Journal that highlighted how the outfit expanded the profile of DJs in Atlanta and more via breaking records at various strip clubs and venues across the country. Nando was a popular DJ and could be frequently spotted at strip clubs such as Onyx, Magic City & Kamal’s 21. He had been working on his debut album in his final days according to Coalition DJ’s founder Nick Love.

“DJ Nando played a huge role in the success of Atlanta’s thriving music scene, and was a constant “go to” for labels and artists trying to get their music to the masses,” Love said in a statement. Funeral arrangements for Barnes have been set for Saturday, January 18th at noon at Donald Trimble Mortuary in Decatur, GA.

Barnes was 38.
