The-Dream used his Instagram account on Wednesday afternoon to announce his departure from Def Jam Records. The singer, songwriter, producer and A&R is leaving the label after six successful years including his 2007 debut LoveHate and penning monster records such as Rihanna’s “Umbrella”. Original rifts between he and the label surfaced in 2011 when despite numerous delays of his Love IV MMXII project led him to crafting an entirely new one, Terius Nash 1977 for free distribution. The label repacked that project and sold it to retailers in 2012.
