Most true soul music was appreciated via a 7′ vinyl record. Cleveland’s retro-soul connoisseur Ab is no stranger to crafting some of the more enjoyable head nodding soul music in recent memory so hearing of his recent 45 Series, Vol. 1 endeavor made perfect sense to these ears. “Stop Fakin’/Stevie’s Lament” twirls around with powerful kickdrums and Ab’s vocals scaling up and down to a Funkadelic appeal. Longtime collaborator Black Milk handles the production on the front end while on “Stevie’s Lament”, Ab’s spoken expressions are muted and replaced with fluttering horns and expansive flutes — detailing both the upswing of love and the downturn of loss.
