Music skeptics found themselves firing on all cylinders last night as the 2014 Grammy Award nominee show aired on CBS. Our early predictions for certain albums rang truer than ever, Drake & Kendrick Lamar will be fighting for ‘Rap Album Of The Year’ and Macklemore will take his 7 nominations and damn near will all of them from ‘Album of the Year’ to ‘Best New Artist’. Also joining Macklemore, Drake & K Dot in that ‘Best Rap Album’ category are Throne brothers Jay Z & Kanye West with Magna Carta … Holy Grail & Yeezus respectively.

What people should be focusing in on is that Pharrell is essentially fighting himself with some of his nominations. The legendary VA producer is up for 7 awards himself including ‘Producer Of The Year’, Record Of The Year (Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines”, Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky”) and his contributions to Dat Punk’s Random Access Memories, which is up for ‘Album Of The Year’.

What hip-hop fans are hoping for is Lamar to take victory in the major categories as a satisfactory victor of the ‘Album Of The Year’ gramophone. It would mark the third album in the award’s history to win that coveted prize following Lauryn Hill’s win in 1999 for The Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill and OutKast’s win in 2004 for Speakerboxxx/The Love Below. See the abridged list of nominees below and the full list here. Expect battle lines to be drawn on January 26th when the awards air live on CBS.
