There’s a glossy sheen over Lady Gaga’s ARTPOP album — at least judging from the early singles that have been released. It’s a glam record for certain with big synths and anthems (“Applause”) and twisting thump (“Do What You Want” with R. Kelly). Even if her nude antics all over the place have only been par for the course with the Gaga marketing plan, the music is already set to dominant pop radio.

She’ll be dueling with Katy Perry for the rest of the year when it comes to how many songs can dominate your Top 40 station but I can bet “Jewels ‘N Drugs” featuring T.I., Too $hort & Twista is one of the tracks that makes the list. Not because of the subject matter or the fact Gaga keeps herself surrounded here by Todd Shaw, Tip Huxtable & Twista but because of the era it chases back towards. The ’80s were all about coke on mirrors, partying until dawn and not thinking about consequence. Mother Monster knows how to make a tune work and this isn’t a label move anyway. Even if Juicy J is riding with Katy Perry on “Dark Horse”, Gaga is still Gaga and her fan base will make certain you deal with this too.

ARTPOP is available now on iTunes.
